Rock for Roots for Shoots Sure to be one of the concerts of the year, the Root and Shoots benefit show is featuring some of the up-and-coming and straight-up-best local bands Shanghai has to offer. They are: Ferris Wheel (Brit-pop)
Trinity: Ling Chi and guests A night of seriously Chinese hard music with three bands
from Lie records. Death Metal / Grind Core a la Cannibal Corpse will be provided
by headliners Ôø‡Ling Chi.Ôø‡ This translates to Ôø‡death by dismembermentÔø‡ or
something demonic. To hear one of their tracks and read a couple

Sunday, March 18th Punk for Life: Angry Jerks + Defy + 3 local bands
(Afternoon Show) The second show for Nanjing street punk / hardcore band Angry Jerks is an afternoon show at 4 Live. They will be accompanied by WuhanÔø‡s Defys and three local bands. Beer is cheap so strap one on in the afternoon for a change and come spazz out with the kids.
Wednesday, March 21st The Honeys Just back from recording with producer team blah blah blah in the UK, ShanghaiÔø‡s mainstays The Honeys will be playing a set at Bonbon. The Honeys have been busy this year with big shows all around town including the opening of 4 Live. They play alternative rock and count among their influences the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Cure and U2. You can hear their music at their MySpace page. (http://www.myspace.com/tianmidehaizi) After their show, Bonbon transforms into FAME, which is a KTV rock kind of thing where the TV has been replace with an honest to god real live band. Friday, March 23rd I Love EU Six electronic artists and DJS from the European Union are playing on the same bill to create a Ôø‡mini music festival.Ôø‡ Countries represented are: Italy, Poland, France, Sweden, Germany, Belgium. Get EÔø‡d up and go down to celebrate all things Euro will some blips and beeps! Stuttgart represent!
Saturday, March 24th Joyside Beijing band du jour Joyside will be at Yuyintang for a Ôø‡special Shanghai performance!Ôø‡ ArenÔø‡t they all special, though? Not to be confused with Ôø‡Joyride,Ôø‡ which is a Roxette song, the Beijing four-piece are back with their no-bullshit brand of neo-retro garage punk. New songs too! Featuring a Hives-ish attitude and a Hives-esque brand of fucked up English, Joyside always deliver a tight and catchy punk set.
Orange Orange
are a brit-pop four-piece by way of Uruguay and are playing three shows in
Shanghai as part of their month long China tour - - all the way from Guiyang to
XiÔø‡an! They sound like the Strokes doing Beatles covers. Really. Check out some

People who had a good time at last years Mayflies show might want to check this
one out. Along with a stop at Live Bar, Orange (or, at times, The Magic Orange)
will be playing a Sunday afternoon show at ENO (2:00 P.M.) and a Sunday night
show at 4 Live (9:00 P.M.).
Tuesday, March 27th Ziggy Marley DonÔø‡t really know but IÔø‡m guessing the reggae of Ziggy Marley might have been influenced by, I donÔø‡t know, BOB MARLEY. Actually, heÔø‡s working in a lot of blues and R&B to his music as well. Spark one up and book your tickets now. Zion!
Wednesday, March 28th Mad Mushroom Brigade After a blistering Nu Metal set (think Korn meets the Red Hot Chili PeppersÔø‡ like exactly that) at Bonbon last month, Underground are back with their arsenal of F-bombs, snarls and jerky head movements. Mad Mushroom Brigade played late last year at the Live Bar reopening as well as shows at Yuyintang, 4 Live, Bonbon and nine million other places. Friday, March 30th Shotgun She-Ras Formed in 2004 and wining for best band name of the month, this all-girl band plays Ôø‡lady country musicÔø‡ - - the most bitter-sweet variety of country music.
